Côme Perché working in his studio

After finishing his studies in illustration — and perhaps for fear of a blank page — Côme Perché quickly turned towards the use of paper as a material in its sculptural quality. Starting from traditional Japanese origami, he rapidly embarked on an exploratory path leading to a more personal style of curved folding and cuts.

In the origami alphabet, there are two basic folds: the ‘mountain’ fold and the ‘valley’ fold. The metaphor in itself already illustrates the vast field of possibilities as well as the searing syntheses to achieve. Finding that one fold that transforms the surface and rolls out like a wave in order to create the imagined object; that is the challenge that kindles and stimulates Côme’s search for form and style.
